The LLVM Qualification Working Group was initiated in July 2025 to explore how LLVM components can be used more easily in safety-critical industries. This talk presents the group's first year of work, including safety model discussions, assessment of LLVM development practices, library qualification enablement, and workflows, templates, guidelines, and examples for confidence in the usage of LLVM tools. It will discuss what can reasonably be developed upstream, what remains the responsibility of downstream users, and how the LLVM community can support safety-critical adoption without becoming a certification body. This talk invites the LLVM community to help shape a pragmatic model for safety-critical open source: one that increases transparency and confidence, supports industrial adoption, and preserves the development culture that made LLVM successful.
