Abstract/s
The High Level Shader Language (HLSL) is a popular cross-platform programming language for GPUs focused on realtime graphics applications. Through its over 20 year life HLSL has had two reference compilers, but no specification. As HLSL support in Clang progresses, the implementers are working through challenges caused by the lack of a specification and the language inconsistencies between the reference implementations.
