Oliver Chang is a second-year PhD student at University of California, Santa Cruz. His research is on robustifying deep reinforcement learning algorithms in complex environments. He became interested in this subject by doing a neuroscience internship at California Institute of Technology during high school. There, he learned about learning and decision making of animals which inspired him to pursue a degree in computer science and learn about biologically-inspired algorithms. He is currently working on adapting the teacher-student paradigm to improve generalizability of reinforcement learning.
